Catalytic Mechanism

Structure determination of a novel bacterial cytidylyltransferase. Cytidylyltransferases are enzymes involved in lipid metabolism. We determined the x-ray crystal structure of glycerol-3-phosphate cytidylyltransferase. This structure has facilitated the enzymological analysis of the entire cytidylyltransferase family. Based upon this structure we generated a homology model of the human phosphocholine cytidylyltransferase that has greatly facilitated the interpretation of site-directed mutagenesis data.
