Gene Discovery

Assignment of function to a novel gene involved in hereditary spastic paraplegia. We assigned this recently cloned gene (Fink Lab, University of Michigan Cancer Center) as a probable GTPase in the hGBP1 family of large GTPases (click here for sequence alignment). This discovery permitted us to build a homology model that will facilitate functional analysis of this protein (especially through site-directed mutagenesis and domain truncation constructs).
